Compare interim storage and later handling separately
For large quantities, a small per-item fee can exceed the storage charge. Compare two scenarios: interim storage only, and subsequent counting, recording, relabelling and dispatch. Clarify when any offered free-storage period starts, materials and each additional operation. Later work remains a separate cost component even if it is not ordered today.
Plan step by step
- Separate receiving and storage from pick and pack and transport.
- State normal volumes, seasonal peaks, items per order and packaging needs.
- Compare currency, tax basis, surcharges, billing unit and validity.
- Check minimum charges alongside included services. Mark whether a minimum charge is credited against usage or added separately; do not treat unknown line items as zero.
- Show setup, parallel operation and warehouse exit separately from a normal month. Agree export format, stock counting and goods collection at the end of the contract.

| Cost component | Check the billing unit | Clarify in the quote |
|---|---|---|
| Receiving | Pallet, carton, unit or labour time | Counting, labelling, discrepancies and minimum charge. |
| Storage | Location, volume or unit per billing period | Time basis, minimum occupancy and seasonal capacity. |
| Pick and pack | Order, first item and additional items | Multi-item orders, packaging materials and special packaging. |
| Shipping | Parcel, consignment or pallet by service | Weight basis, destination, surcharges and price validity. |
| Returns and reworking | Return, item or labour time | Inspection scope, photos, repacking, blocked stock and approval. |
| Systems and minimum charges | One-off, monthly or usage based | Setup, support, minimum spend, tax basis and termination. |
This is an editorial comparison method, not a WayfirstDock price list. Monthly quantity × agreed unit price gives a planning subtotal before minimum charges, surcharges and tax; the quote must state how those apply. Compare a normal month, peak month and one-off handover separately.
Before choosing a quote
- Do both quotes cover the same volumes, packaging and return checks?
- Which fees are confirmed, estimated or still unresolved?
- How are minimum spend and handover costs calculated?
